When I was quite young, I was gonna be 

A rich and famous star,

When I was quite young, I was gonna be

A man who went quite far.

Now that I’m older, 

May not be wiser,                 

But I’m happier by far.                 

I’ve seen good and bad in Africa,

I’ve sung an Uhuru song,

But now I’m over 70,                 

I’m just happy to be where I am, where I am.     

If we didn’t laugh enough                 

It’s not too late now, 

We have been through some hard times,      

But we’re looking forward                

To each new day now….

……It’s so great to be alive.  

When I was quite young, I thought that I could thrive    

On a desert island in the sun,

When I was quite young, I thought that I could live

On seaweed and coconuts and fun.

If we didn’t laugh enough                 

It’s not too late now,

We have been through some hard times,      

But we’re looking forward                

To each new day now….

An E-type Jaguar,    

When I was quite young, I thought I could survive

On the love of that beautiful car.

Now that I’m older,

May not be wiser,                  

But I’m happier by far.

To those hard times, let’s say ‘bye-bye’,     

‘Cause we’re looking forward 

To each new day now….

Let’s just enjoy each moment while we can!
